Saint Luke the Physician Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea
He was born in Kerch, Crimea. He studied Medicine at Kiev University and devoted himself to the service of the sick man. In 1920 he was elected professor at the University of Tashkent in the field of topographic anatomy and surgery. He published important scientific studies and won the highest state awards.
In 1921 he was ordained a priest and later a bishop. He lived a total of 11 years in prison and exile for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. On June 11, 1961 he died in the Lord in Simferopol, having selflessly served the people of God as Archbishop and physician. In 1995 he was canonized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
His memory is celebrated on June 11.
